A true Midwesterner, Kristen grew up in Minot, ND and attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks to earn her B.S. degree in Biology. After graduating, she began working in pharmaceutical research. Her favorite part of the job was the patient interaction, which was actually the impetus for her decision to begin medical school. Kristen attended UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences to earn her M.D. degree and then was off to a four-year residency program at the University of Missouri, Kansas City where she specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

“Taking care of patients at such a special time in their lives and then following them over time really appeals to me,” says Dr. Fried. She is genuinely interested in all aspects of women’s health. “I like the variety and really enjoy working with both my OB and my GYN patients.”

Kristen started running to relieve stress while in medical school, and really enjoyed it. “I just kept running,” she says. She completed the Portland Marathon in 2013 and the Chicago Marathon in 2014 – and she’d like to run another someday. In addition to running, Dr. Fried likes to spend time drawing, painting, skiing and hiking. And while she claims she is “no poet”, she was a finalist in a Physician Creative Arts poetry contest.
